UAN Honoured with Special Recognition by The Asian Weekly
Celebrating a Journey of Community, Connection and Collective Impact
United Asian Network (UAN) is proud to announce that it has been honoured with a Special Recognition Award by The Asian Weekly on Saturday 29th August 2026 at TAWAA, recognising the organisation’s growing contribution towards connecting, empowering and strengthening Kenya’s Asian community.
The recognition comes at an important moment in UAN’s journey — as the organisation continues to evolve from an idea into a growing national platform bringing together community leaders, entrepreneurs, professionals, businesses and the next generation of leaders.
From an Idea to a National Network
Established in 2022, UAN was founded with a clear purpose: to create a platform where Kenya’s diverse Asian communities could come together, build meaningful relationships and play an even stronger role in the country’s social and economic development.
Over the past four years, that vision has steadily taken shape.
Through its four pillars — National Engagement, Economic Connector, Social Harmony and Asian Identity — UAN has created opportunities for people to connect across communities, sectors and generations.
What began as a vision has grown into a network with an increasingly broad range of initiatives, partnerships and platforms.
Building Platforms That Bring People Together
One of UAN’s key milestones has been the growth of the UAN Leadership Summit, which has evolved into a flagship platform for leadership, dialogue, business engagement and community participation.
From the first Summit to subsequent editions, the platform has brought together hundreds of delegates and leading voices to discuss issues that matter to Kenya and its Asian community.
Beyond the Summit, UAN has continued to develop initiatives including the Community Leaders Forum, UAN SACCO, business and professional networking platforms, women's initiatives and strategic partnerships.
Most recently, UAN has taken an important step towards strengthening its national footprint with the launch of the UAN Mombasa Chapter, opening a new chapter of engagement on the Coast.
A Personal Reflection from the Chairman
Reflecting on the recognition, Dr. Bimal Kantaria, Chairman of United Asian Network, said the milestone that makes him most proud is seeing UAN grow from an idea into a trusted platform.
“When we started UAN, the vision was to create something that could go beyond individual organisations, communities or business interests — a platform where we could come together, recognise our shared contribution to Kenya, and create opportunities for one another and for future generations.”
For Dr. Kantaria, the most rewarding part of the journey has been witnessing people who may never previously have interacted sitting at the same table, sharing ideas, building relationships and asking how they can contribute.
“That is what makes the journey worthwhile.”
He also emphasised that the recognition from The Asian Weekly is not viewed as an endpoint.
“I see the award not as a destination, but as a reminder of the responsibility we have to continue building — together — for our community and for Kenya.”
Why This Recognition Matters
For UAN, the award is about more than the organisation itself.
It is recognition of the collective effort of the many individuals, community leaders, businesses, partners, volunteers and members who have contributed to the UAN journey.
It is also a reminder of the importance of creating spaces where different generations can meet, where businesses can find opportunities to collaborate, where young professionals can find mentors, and where community leaders can participate in conversations that shape Kenya's future.
Our greatest achievement is the network itself.
Every connection made, every conversation started, every partnership created and every new person who chooses to participate adds strength to the wider community.
Looking Ahead
As UAN celebrates this special recognition, the organisation remains focused on the work ahead.
The launch of UAN Mombasa is part of a broader ambition to build a truly national network — one that connects communities across Kenya rather than being centred in one city or one group.
The future will require stronger collaboration, greater participation from young people, increased business and professional connections, and continued engagement with national stakeholders.
UAN is committed to being a platform where those conversations can happen.
The journey has only just begun.
